BOOK REVIEW WEDNESDAY

Grant Cardone defines obsession as those dreams and goals that you desire to achieve so intensely that they give you the urge, momentum, and energy necessary to build the life you deserve and dream of. The book ‘Be obsessed or be average’ will show you how to become obsessed and harness that obsession to build your own success.

For me, success is about being great at many things. I certainly wouldn’t be satisfied with just being rich. I want it all: health, wealth, family, love, recreation, spirituality, community, and time to enjoy it all. Why settle for one colour when you can have the rainbow?

-Grant Cardone

In a society where obsession is labelled as an illness or an affliction, or worse a character deficit, the author gives us permission to be obsessed and to go after the lives we desire. As an obsessive person myself, this book was the one book I needed to read to stop apologizing for being who I am. People, like myself, who are obsessive cannot help it but be that way, and if not channelled rightly, they get obsessed with other, often destructive vices.

The author tells us that is okay to have it all! To not be confined by society’s standards as most of them, including those who love you, have often given up on their own dreams and have settled for an average existence and expect you to do the same. Refuse to be mediocre, no matter what.

The world is filled with people who have given up on their dreams and now spend their lives trying to get others to give up on theirs.

-Grant Cardone

I disagreed, however, with his perspective on medical advice. He brags about how he blatantly disregarded his doctor’s advice about rest and dealing with stress. We do not recommend you do that, go after your passions and desires, but remember that your health is your wealth. Take care of you first and foremost.

This book is, however, not just a glorified pep talk on going after your dreams. He does give us practical steps to building the right team, product and strategies for leadership.

Why does mediocrity outweigh excellence? The answer lies in obsession. In the journey of life, everybody wants to succeed, but very few are willing to go the extra mile- Temwani Muuchili Phiri

I have a dream, but it’s not enough; passion is one of the ingredients needed for me to live the dream when I wake- Kelly Kalupandi Kantumoya
